Why isn't this platform completely free?
Great question. The truth is, quality data, AI, and product experience costs money.
Every time you search, WiseBites analyzes large volumes of restaurant reviews to surface gluten-related insights. That processing requires ongoing infrastructure and compute costs. To ensure WiseBites remains fast, accurate, and ad-free, we rely on subscriber support. This allows us to keep the platform running and constantly improve our detection algorithms, while being committed to an ad-free experience.
Reviews from paid subscribers are weighted more heavily because they come from engaged users completing a structured review form focused on gluten-related experiences. This helps improve overall data quality and reduce spam. By supporting the platform directly, you are improving the quality of data for everyone.

Data & Sources
How is a restaurant classified as “Dedicated Gluten-Free”?
This is a review-based classification, not a guarantee or certification.
WiseBites uses reviews from WiseBites+ (Premium) members to identify restaurants that are consistently described as operating a 100% gluten-free environment. To apply this classification, we require both:
- A minimum number of reviews from WiseBites+ members
- A strong majority of those reviews indicating the restaurant is dedicated gluten-free
This approach helps ensure the classification reflects repeated, gluten-focused experiences from engaged community members, rather than a single opinion or keyword mention.
Restaurant conditions, ingredients, staff, and kitchen practices can change at any time. Always speak directly with a manager or chef about your specific dietary needs before ordering.
Where does the review data come from?
We aggregate data from two main sources: broad public datasets (like Google Reviews) and our own proprietary WiseBites community reviews. While Google gives us volume, we prioritize and heavily weight reviews left directly on WiseBites, as these come from verified community members specifically assessing gluten-related handling, preparation practices, and reported experiences. Our goal is to grow our own database to become the single source of truth for the community.
Why do you need to use reviews from Google?
The truth is, there really aren't many places with a large number of gluten reviews that are recent & relevant. Additionally, with our platform being new, we do not have existing user data we can rely on at scale. By leveraging existing Google reviews, it helps give us some data and information on restaurants. That being said, we place a more significant weight on reviews submitted on the WiseBites platform, because we have a review form dedicated to answering critical questions or celiac and gluten-intolerant individuals.
The goal is to grow our own database of reviews over time so that we can rely less on third-party sources.
Why don't you have every review from Google?
We are limited by Google's APIs and their terms of service, which restrict bulk data extraction. We do our best to only pull reviews related to gluten and celiac concerns to ensure relevance. However, there are limitations which prevent us from getting all of these gluten/celiac-related reviews. As our own community grows and more users submit reviews directly on WiseBites, we will rely less on Google data over time.
How do restaurants get added to WiseBites?
We pull in restaurants directly from Google based on your search queries. If you do not see a specific restaurant try looking it up by name in WiseBites search bar. The restaurant should appear then and be available in searches going forward. Given that this is a new platform, you may find yourself having to do this some initially, but as our database grows, this will become less frequent. How do you use my data?
We do not sell your data. Your dietary preferences and search history are used strictly to power your search filters (e.g., hiding shared fryers if you are Celiac) and to improve the accuracy of our AI model.
