A Local's Guide to the Best Gluten-Free Restaurants in Atlanta
When my wife found out she could no longer eat gluten, it was an abrupt life change that we did not know how to navigate. Places we used to eat at frequently were now off limits, and Atlanta, a place that was home, suddenly felt like a foreign city. Especially if you are anything like my wife, getting even the smallest amount of gluten causes hours (to days) of misery.
It can be a bit overwhelming and confusing to find reliable & tasty gluten-free options when you start searching. That's part of the reason why I built WiseBites. However, now that we've been navigating Atlanta gluten-free for a few years, I wanted to put together a list of some of our favorite places in the city.
Note: I know that there are probably some key places missing from this list, but I mainly wanted to highlight places we have been to and speak from my own personal experience. At the end, I did list some places we intend to try which I have heard a lot of good things about. We live in Brookhaven, so I know we probably are missing some places from the westside and east Atlanta.
Dedicated Gluten-Free Lunch & Dinner
- Location: The Works (West Midtown)
- Cuisine: Baja-Mexican
- Details: A staple place for us. The entire kitchen is gluten-free, and my wife loves the gluten-free quesadilla here. This is probably our #1 GF restaurant in Atlanta.
- Note: Sundays they do a brunch with a smaller a la carte menu, but all other days they have the full menu available.
- WiseBites Page
- Location: Multiple locations (Beltline & Alpharetta)
- Cuisine: Elevated beach food
- Details: The location on the Beltline is such a blessing for when we are out with friends and need a place to go to get food. It's near a ton of stuff, they have TVs for games, and any non-GF people won't know they are eating gluten-free food.
- Note: We have been to both locations and they were both great!
- WiseBites Page
- Location: Virginia Highlands
- Cuisine: Mexican
- Details: A new go-to dinner spot for us. It's in a cool neighborhood, and I highly recommend it as a weekend dinner spot with friends. Entire kitchen is gluten-free, and they offer a good variety of options: burritos, tacos, quesadillas, etc.
- WiseBites Page
- Location: Grant Park
- Cuisine: Mediterranean
- Details: We've used this as a nice date night spot a few times. Can be kind of hard to get to if you don't live in this area, but it has the feel of a neighborhood spot and the staff is super friendly. Definitely a different type of cuisine compared to the other dedicated gluten-free places listed above.

Dedicated Gluten-Free Bakeries
- Location: Inman Park
- Cuisine: Bakery
- Details: This is a staple that I imagine every gluten-free person in Atlanta is aware of. It's a solid breakfast spot with biscuits, homemade pop tarts, donuts, and plenty of other treats. They do sell some things that you can take home to cook later as well. If you go to the Inman Park location, I highly recommend getting food at Hell Yeah Gluten Free and then walking over to Stereo for a coffee. Awesome start to a Saturday!
- WiseBites Page
- Location: Marietta
- Cuisine: Bakery
- Details: This place really is so awesome. We would go all the time, but it can be a bit far for folks who live in the city. They have a great mix of empanadas, pastries, and other treats. I do recommend getting there early, because it gets crowded and they do run out of things.

Nice Dining – Not Dedicated GF But Great at Accommodations
- Location: Old Fourth Ward
- Cuisine: Italian
- Details: This is a great date-night spot or fun celebration spot. They make their pasta in house, and their gluten-free pasta is very good. Also, it's not on the menu, but they make a delicious Espresso Martini (also gluten-free). Staff is very accommodating and knowledgeable.
- WiseBites Page
- Location: Buckhead
- Cuisine: American (massive menu)
- Details: This is a restaurant with locations all over the United States. They are good at accommodating a large number of allergens, especially gluten. Their staff goes through pretty thorough training for this, and A LOT of the menu can be done gluten-free. Another nice date-night spot where you can happily eat quality gluten-free food.
- WiseBites Page
- Location: Chamblee
- Cuisine: American (southern food options)
- Details: This is one of those rare opportunities where you can get fried chicken + mac & cheese all gluten-free. Southbound is in a fun, but relaxed, area in Chamblee. It's great if you want to park (or Uber) and hit a few spots nearby for drinks as well. This is a place that is great for date-nights as well.
- WiseBites Page
- Location: Decatur
- Cuisine: American
- Details: Just about everything on their menu can be made gluten-free. They have a lot of great options that can't typically be made gluten-free. It also is a bourbon bar, so the bourbon selection is quite extensive.
- WiseBites Page
- Location: Ansley Park
- Cuisine: Southern
- Details: It's easy to miss because it is nestled in Ansley Mall (Publix and a few other shops in the same strip). This is another Atlanta place where you have the luxury of getting fried chicken and shrimp gluten-free! They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner — however we have only eaten there for dinner (got it to-go). The breakfast menu has some nice gluten-free options as well — pancakes, chicken & waffles, etc.
- WiseBites Page
All of these places can make A LOT of things gluten-free (in some cases, almost every single thing on their menus can be made gluten-free), and the staff at each is quite knowledgeable.
Convenient Go-Tos
- Location: Multiple locations (Brookhaven, Buckhead, Decatur, Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, Johns Creek)
- Cuisine: Brunch
- Details: This is my #1 breakfast place in Atlanta. The gluten-free menu is very large, they are great at accommodating, and the portion sizes are amazing. The gluten-free cinnamon roll is very good as are their other gluten-free items. Fun menu hack: a short stack of pancakes can be subbed as a side!
- Note: They close at 2PM, so it truly is just breakfast and lunch here. They also have several locations in Illinois & Wisconsin.
- WiseBites Page
- Location: Multiple locations (West Midtown, Buckhead, Sandy Springs)
- Cuisine: Healthy Food
- Details: Flower Child is great for a quick or casual meal. We often do pick-up on weeknights and eat it at home. They brand themselves as a "restaurant for everyone", and they do that with a large number of gluten-free items (also good options for anyone that is vegetarian or vegan). Our personal favorite is the chicken enchiladas bowl.
- Note: They have locations all over the United States, so you can enjoy it outside of Georgia.
- WiseBites Page
- Location: Multiple (Midtown, Colony Square, Brookhaven, Sandy Springs)
- Cuisine: Thai
- Details: We do takeout from the Brookhaven location probably at least every other week. In our experiences, the staff has been great about handling gluten-free food, and they have also some really good dishes that are completely gluten free. My wife's go-to is their Masman Curry with Chicken (portion size is massive, so it can probably give you 1.5–2 meals).
- WiseBites Page
- Location: Multiple locations (our favorite is the Brookhaven location in the Cherokee Plaza Shopping Center)
- Cuisine: Sandwiches
- Details: Jersey Mike's notoriously has a very intense program for managers-in-training, and they also do a significant amount of team-member training. As a result, their locations are expected to be able to follow protocols for things like preparing gluten-free food. In our experiences, they have a completely separate area where they make these sandwiches to prevent cross-contamination. The gluten-free bread does look noticeably different, but in terms of quality, I've had far worse.
- Note: There are obviously a lot of Jersey Mike's locations, so I understand that some may have issues or problems. I'd advise you to still consult with the staff about their protocols, and if you can, find a location you can consistently use.
- WiseBites Page
- Locations: Multiple (Druid Hills, Sandy Springs, Vinings)
- Cuisine: Burgers, Sandwiches
- Details: We have only visited the location in Druid Hills, but each time has been good. They have a separate gluten-free menu, so just make sure to communicate with the staff on this. They also can do fries gluten-free, which is a nice touch as many places in the US cook their fries in a shared fryer.

Hang Out Spots
- Location: West Midtown
- Cuisine: Pizza + Drinks
- Details: I can not say enough good things about The Grove. The staff is so friendly, and they make a truly concerted effort to responsibly provide gluten-free options. They have a fully dedicated gluten-free pizza kitchen — it only operates on Saturdays at the moment, but I'm hoping they expand those hours soon. They also brew truly gluten-free beer that is made with rice flour and via a process that allows it to be gluten-free rather than gluten-reduced beer. One of the staff members took extensive time walking my wife & me through the process and even gave us a few free samples to take home. The spot itself is awesome to hang out with friends, they have a huge screen for games/events, and a good bit of space outside.
- Note: The Grove also operates as a coffee shop during the day (opens at 8 AM), and it's a really nice place to work from. They don't have an extensive breakfast menu, so there aren't a lot of GF breakfast options. However, it's a great vibe if you need a place to work remotely.
- Location: Multiple locations (Inman Park, Decatur)
- Cuisine: Sandwiches
- Details: Both locations are great for a casual bite & drinks with friends. They use Udi's buns for their gluten-free sandwiches, and they are actually bigger than their normal buns. There are some sandwiches that they can't do gluten-free, but there are a large number they can. Also, they have some fun drinks & cocktails, and they have been really thorough about checking that the drink ingredients are gluten-free for us as well.

Special Occasions
- Location: Multiple (Inman Park, Buckhead, Alpharetta)
- Cuisine: Persian
- Details: This may be my favorite restaurant in all of Atlanta. The food is so incredibly good, and the portions are massive. A lot of the menu can be made gluten-free, and the staff has been great at ensuring things are gluten-free. It definitely is a pricey meal, so we typically do it for special occasions. I also definitely recommend making a reservation before you go.

Hidden Gems
- Location: Multiple (Plaza Fiesta & Doraville)
- Cuisine: Venezuelan
- Details: After a visit to the Canary Islands, I fell in love with cachapas. When I tried to find them in Atlanta, I stumbled upon Arepa Grill. I've been to both locations, but the one at Plaza Fiesta is my favorite. If you've never been to Plaza Fiesta, it is an indoor Latin mall and it has everything. I will note the Arepa Grill location has less seating, but they have plenty of gluten-free arepas to pick from. The location in Doraville is more of a traditional restaurant with its own seating.

South End Smokehouse at Chamblee Tap & Market
- Location: Chamblee
- Cuisine: Barbecue
- Details: This is tucked away inside Chamblee Tap and Market, which is a great place to enjoy a drink or watch a game in Chamblee. If you talk to the staff and explain that you can not eat gluten, they do a good job of explaining the things that you are able to eat. A decent amount of their menu can be made gluten-free — particularly the meats + several sides (including tater tots). It has a neighborhood feel to it, and we really have enjoyed going there for food & drinks.
- WiseBites Page
- Location: Brookhaven
- Cuisine: Pizza
- Details: We recently discovered Galla's, and it definitely has the feel of a neighborhood spot. We talked to the staff, and they did a great job of explaining the ways they prepare gluten-free pizza to ensure my wife would be able to eat it. Their gluten-free pizza was really tasty! They can only make them in certain sizes, but the quality is really good. I can foresee us enjoying some pizza and UGA games there this fall.
